چکیده

The uptake mechanisms of Ni(II) on mordenite were investigated by 13 macroscopic experiments and extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) 14 spectroscopy. The results demonstrated that Ni(II) could be retained via different 15 mechanisms, depending on pH, ionic strength, temperature etc. At low pH, the uptake 16 of Ni(II) is primarily dominated by cation exchange and/or outer-sphere surface 17 complexation. The interatomic distances of Ni-O (~2.05 Å) and the coordination 18 number (~6.0) are similar to those of Ni(II)(aq) reference sample, suggesting that 19 Ni(II) is present in an [Ni(H2O)6] 2+ octahedral environment at low pH. With 20 increasing pH, the uptake of Ni(II) on mordenite tends to form inner-sphere surface 21 complexes and precipitation/co-precipitation at high pH. Direct assessment of molecular transport in mordenite: dominance of surface resistances.

For the first time, macroscopic and microscopic diffusion measurements were combined for a single system: n-hexane in mordenite. Using tapered element oscillating microbalance and IR microimaging results, we unequivocally proved the dominant role of surface barriers for molecular transport.

Cellular Automata Simulation of a Bistable Reaction-Diffusion System: Microscopic and Macroscopic Approaches

The Cellular Automata method has been used to simulate the pattern formation of the Schlögl model as a bistable Reaction-Diffusion System. Both microscopic and macroscopic Cellular Automata approaches have been considered and two different methods for obtaining the probabilities in the microscopic approach have been mentioned. The results show the tendency of the system towards the more sta...

Air-assisted Liquid Liquid Microextraction Combined with Graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectrometry for Preconcentration and Determination of Trace Amount of Co(II) and Ni(II) Ions in Water Samples

A simple, rapid and efficient method has been developed for the extraction, preconcentration and determination of cobalt (II) and nickel (II) ions in water samples by air-assisted liquid-liquid microextraction (AALLME) coupled with graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GFAAS). In the proposed method, much less volume of an organic solvent was used as the extraction solvent in the abs...

Mechanisms of Nickel Sorption on Pyrophyllite: Macroscopic and Microscopic Approaches

Retention of heavy metal ions on soil mineral surfaces is a crucial process for maintaining environmental quality. A thorough understanding of the sorption mechanisms of heavy metals on soil mineral surfaces is therefore of fundamental importance. This study examined Ni(Il) sorption mechanisms on pyrophyllite. The removal of Ni from solution was studied as a function of pH (pH = 5-8.5), initial...
